Wilderness + Comfort, by Patagonia River Guides
Patagonia River Guides' Unplugged packages are a natural spin off of their most successful lodge based programs in the region. Now, through these float trip camping based itineraries, we are able to offer longer days on the water with no travel time, as well as otherwise inaccessible country, and still provide almost all of the creature comforts clients are accustomed to from our standard lodge packages. Rivers such as the Chimehuín, Limay Medio, Aluminé, Caleufu, and Chubut offer little in the way of day float access to the stretches that we fish on our overnight programs, which means our guests access water only ever seen or fished by those who are willing to sign on for an overnight adventure. These programs are also easily combined with other lodge programs in the PRG North catalog, or even with the Trevelin Lodge and Estancia Tres Valles in the South.
The Chimehuín, Limay Medio, Aluminé, Caleufu, and Chubut all are rivers stretching through wide expanses of uninhabited Patagonia, and PRG's Unplugged float trips make use of those miles to put our clients on water that sees very few flies throughout the year. All of these rivers hold excellent populations of resident trout that can be targeted throughout the summer with dry flies, and several of them see fall migrations of pre-spawn browns that can be truly breathtaking in size, and inhale streamers like they've been waiting to do just that since the moment they were born (which is practically the case).
Clients fish these rivers both from the boats and from shore throughout each day, and unlike on our lodge programs also have the option of fishing from dawn until dusk if they like, since camp is made each night on the banks of the river itself. These rivers sport some of the densest and most reliable hatches in all of Patagonia, allowing dry fly enthusiasts to select from their favorite patterns in matching insects all day long. Nymphing can also be a highly productive technique, and for those who prefer to throw streamers there are behemoths to be dredged up from the bottom at any time.
The PRG Unplugged program accommodations consist of mobile tent camps which get set up ahead of the clients' arrival each night the group is on the river. Raised cots within the oversized tents themselves provide sleeping arrangements with inflatable mattresses and comfortable bedding, and private bathrooms as well as showers with hot pressurized water are available at each camp set up as well. A spacious wall tent is also included as a communal dining area, and 12-Volt electricity provides both lighting and power for chargers every night.
Each PRG Unplugged float trip comes with its own professional chef and kitchen helpers, who bring everything they need to prepare and serve meals that for the most part can't be distinguished from the ones our clients are used to enjoying in our lodge programs. In addition to this the same full bar as we serve in the lodges is present, along with the same selection of beers and fine wines, plus snacks and soft drinks throughout the day, even with ice! Fresh ingredients are kept fresh throughout the float, and the mobile kitchen is set up at the campsite each night well in advance of the client boats' arrivals. Breakfast is served there in camp each morning, lunch out on the river mid-day, and then dinners are seated affairs at each new camp in the evenings. Special menu or dietary requests should be made in advance of the trip so that appropriate ingredients can be planned before the float.
Flights for Patagonia River Guides Unplugged Programs should arrive in either Chapelco Airport of San Martin (CPC) or , Bariloche (BRC). You will most likely arrive in Argentina by landing at Buenos Aires International Airport (EZE) and we will provide a private ground transfer service across the city to the domestic airport (AEP) for your flight down to Patagonia.
Always remember, our services are provided absolutely free; booking a trip through Hemispheres Unlimited WILL NEVER COST YOU A SINGLE PENNY MORE than booking it directly with the lodge or outfitter, but does reap the benefits of our extensive experience with that destination, as well as our ongoing support services available to you at any time prior to, during, or even after your trip.
